Yorkshire Independent Grocers Association

Welcome!

Welcome to the Yorkshire Independent Grocers Association website!

The site has been created to help us share information about our organisation, with site visitors and potential members to announce who we are and what we do.  We are a go ahead group who recently announced a new design and imagry scheme for members with facias,  internal colour coordination and even choice of advertisement window part or full blocking layouts in matching colours.

We have also created and included a password protected area for use by our existing members where they will be able to view up to date information concerning new deals, discounts and other personal member matters relating to the organisation.

Members who would like to access this section who don't yet have a username and password can register by contacting webmaster@yiga.org.uk .

The Yorkshire Independent Grocers Association (YIGA) is a member of the Association of Convenience Stores (ACS) a group which exists for the benefit of all our members trading in the independent grocery and convenience retail section. This group represents our case in government circles on a non stop basis.

YIGA are also members of the Rural Shops Alliance (RSA).   Once again a group, similar to the above, and again working for the smaller independent retailer but with a more rural outlook.  Click here to view comments on the Queen’s Speech and the legislative proposals as they may affect the independent retailer. Author Mr Sean Carter, Chief Executive, Rural Shops Alliance (RSA).

PLATINUM GROUP WITHIN YIGA

This group has been formed for the benefit of our members who wish to exchange their loyalty to the group and also to the suppliers who feed their stores with at the moment three core supplies namely Bread, Frozen Products and Milk at astounding prices.
The scheme officially opened on May 1st 2007 to the many now contracted members and to allow for any teething troubles the entry was closed until November.  Membership forms have been sent out with the September/October News Bulletin for completion and must be returned by 20th September. Names from  the waiting list have also been included and the  same rule applies.  Telephone entries will NOT  be accepted for this Group. We still expect many more to be  to be added next mid year when the details are passed around our members by newsletter and word of mouth.
Any truly INDEPENDENT store is able to join YIGA if the ground rules are met and acted upon.  (Please enquire, for details check home page).  From there at no extra cost the store can be admitted to the  PLATINUM GROUP if the criteria is met.

Whilst only having been in operation officially for four months the feedback suggests that the contracted members are enjoying the extra suppliers discounts and using them to their advantage to promote the important core suppliers products.  The 99p maximum selling price for the 2ltr carton of milk appeared to be especially popular and at the same time  showing a very healthy profit to the member but unfortunately due to world events the price has had to be increased from September 3rd, now it is recommended to be sold at £1-07p, while still showing an excellent POR. After even such a short space of time it appears that word has already got around participating members customers. More milk is being sold from our Platinum Group members stores therefore creating more footfall, which is exactly what this group is all about. An A4 size encapsulated window bill promoting the £1-07p price will hopefully be distributed by post from YIGA to all stores within this extra grouping.                    More update news later.
